Laura VanGoethem
PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Today’s fast-paced culture places more expectations on us than ever before, and many people feel increased pressure, loneliness, and disconnection from others as a result. Therapy offers a safe, judgement-free space that allows for vulnerability and emotional exploration for those seeking support, self-acceptance, and healing in this overwhelming world. I use an emotion-focused lens to walk alongside my clients, so they can be seen and heard as they explore their own unique journey to deepen their relationships and achieve positive change in their lives.

My previous experience in a demanding corporate role puts me in a unique position to provide support and empathy for my clients struggling to balance the stress of career, parenting, and personal life. My passion is helping clients navigate the experience of parenthood, including infertility and loss, adjusting to life with a baby, and managing all of the relationship challenges that surface during parenthood. I use Emotion-focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) to help them bring deeper emotion to the surface and identify their interactional patterns to repair distress within the relationship. I help couples deepen their understanding of each other and shift their interactions to support new healthy patterns.
I received my Master of Arts in Counseling at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Kansas City. MNU trains under CACREP standards, the highest accreditation in the field of counseling. Laura is under supervision with Liza Reed, LMFT, LPC, CPCS.
